About Us

Qiqi's Cosplay Medics started in 2022, when Qiqi was doing her final year project for her Master's degree in Design Innovation Management. The goal of the project was to solve or improve on an existing issue in any community that the student was passionate about. Having been a cosplayer since 2016, Qiqi chose to research on the cosplay community in Malaysia.

Qiqi found that costume malfunctions were very common among cosplayers in Malaysia. Although there were local cosplay medics, not many people knew about their existence or where to find them. After speaking with the local cosplay medics, she also discovered that they faced issues which hindered them from carrying out their work, such as crowded spaces, heavy baggage, and lack of a surface space.

A pictorial poster that explains Qiqi's research on costume malfunction management in Anime, Comics, and Games Events in Malaysia. It summarises the objectives, literature review, methods, participants, framework, results, and solutions of the study. Conclusion: The ACG community is aware of the significance of cosplay medics, but they struggle to locate them during an ACG event. Improved costume malfunction management in ACG events could be facilitated by the presence of cosplay medics and their tools. Effective communication between cosplay medics and attendees is crucial. Having a dedicated space or booth, a signboard, and a logo for cosplay medics as part of a fixed support system in ACG events can improve the communication, and enable the community to locate cosplay medics easier. The significance of cosplay medics is recognized by ACG event organizers, who should advertise the availability of cosplay repair services both prior to and during the event.

The solutions: a cart for cosplay medics to organise and fetch their tools easily, a uniform and logo that makes all cosplay medics identifiable, and a platform to help make cosplay medics more well-known among the community.
